Ninth Annual Spring RCA QSO Party with W2RCA
Join the fun and help commemorate the first transatlantic short wave message from 1BCG to Paul Godley in Ardrossan, Scotland in 1921. Thanks to a generous offer from Joachim Braun, DH5JBR, we will have an opportunity to QSO a station on the shores of the Firth of Clyde very near the QTH that Paul Godley set up his tent in that chilly December of 1921. RCA members Ernest Amy, Maj. Edwin Armstrong, George Burghard, Milton Cronkhite, John Grinan and Walker Inman assembled a transmitting station, 1BCG in Greenwich, Connecticut, while Paul Godley traveled to Ardrossan, Scotland and set up a receiving station to attempt the first transatlantic short wave message on 230 meters. Success was achieved on December 11, 1921.
Joachim will be operating at GM/DH5JBR/p on 20 meters from his mobile near 102 Eglington Road, Ardrossan, Scotland (GPS: 55.652691 N, 4.821380 W). He plans to use a 100-watt SSB transceiver powered by his car battery and a vertical antenna. Operation would likely start at 1300Z (9:00 a.m. EDT) and extend for several hours.
Special commemorative QSL cards have been designed both for contact with Joachim and with the Club’s station, W2RCA. Suggested operating windows for this QSO Party:
